Our Dad walked this earth with grace, kindness and humility.
Leaving a chasm, yet mountains of love.
Much loved Dad, Gpa, Great Gpa, and soulmate to Bev (dec. 2006).
A nurturer of family, extended family and friends, advocate of social justice, lover of nature, a man of books, maps, history/genealogy.

Rod has had a great interest in “Feed me Surfcoast” and valued highly the work that they do and the huge volunteer community who keep it running so successfully.
Warren is a regular ‘Feed Me’ volunteer and the ‘Feed Me” team are providing our afternoon tea for our celebration of Rod’s life.

Rod was one of the first people I met when I came to Australia.
His strong ties to Gordon Miller and the family meant he was the MC at Alister and Ani’s wedding, and continued to be in our lives ever since.

What a wonderful celebration of Rod’s life!
It brought back a special memory for us – the 1993 overnight hiking expedition into Lake Mountain.
Rod and Bev leading, Warren and Chele, the Nagorcka’s and Brueres and all the kids.
Felix, aged two and the baby of the group, greatly benefited from Rod’s massive supply of camping gear.
He got to travel in comfort and style in the hiking pusher.
A wonderful time.

Just a beautiful man. He touched our hearts, welcomed us into the family.
We had the best trivia night eve at Nambucca Hotel. Which we won, only because of Rod!

Oh, what a family! It was an absolute privilege to sit and hear your stories and songs.
Feel so inspired, truly.
I feel enriched and enlightened by the stories of your dad and your family.
The times I was around Rod, I always loved his humour, his knowledge and his walking stories.

Rod was my mentor (BMLC) in the early 1990’s.
I was an older participant, married with 3 young children, and Rod was just so kind and helpful to me. Never forgotten.
My own husband died last year aged 93. It’s so sad when these great men have to go. Be sad, be proud. I’m sorry I missed catching up with him.
It was very special to sit and listen to the loving tributes to such a special man as Rod. We were always impressed with his compassion and integrity and it has been our privilege to have been called his friends. We always admired his strong sense of social justice for the
less fortunate.
My outdoor life was immensely richer for knowing Rod.
He was always kind, caring & supportive.
His contributions to the Handbook Committee I chaired were thoughtful, informed & given with grace, clarity, & when needed, humour.
My time on the BMTAB Board, & the BMLC Course Committee, was enhanced by Rod’s presence & support.
He was a fine friend indeed.
Rod was considered, informed but unassuming.
As a companion in the outdoors he was observant and great company.
As a colleague, Rod was supportive and a person of integrity.
Those venturing into the outdoors are undoubtably the beneficiaries of Rod’s commitment to the training of teachers and community leaders in outdoor recreation safety.

Rod and my father were close friends and fellow bushwalkers during their formative years around 1950.
Rod has been an occasional but no less notable person all my life, least of which was the source of my name!
Wise, gentle & positive, he was also father of my one-time golfing buddy, Pete.
I greatly admired Rod and will miss the stories he recounted from those early days with my father.
My love and thoughts are with Michele, Steve, Pete, and their families today.
I met Rod just over ten years ago and recognised at once that he was a true gentleman.
I envy those who knew him longer.

It will never be known how many outdoor recreation incidents have been avoided due to the quality leadership development programs that were under Rods guidance.
Rod was a leader of leaders. He harnessed a great team of people, while being respected and liked by many.
On behalf of the Police Search and Rescue Squad, and our partner emergency services, we appreciate Rods legacy, which has been the enhancement of good leadership and decisions during organised bushwalking, ski touring and outdoor recreation activities in general.
Indirectly, Rod Lingard has saved many lives, avoiding loss and suffering for so many families. He will continue to save lives well after his passing.

We have heard stories that Pete shared with us about his Dad on many family bushwalking adventures.
There were stories and songs shared around the camp fire and ,together with Bev, Rod encouraged a love of nature, music and celebration of life which is ongoingly expressed by his wonderful progeny.
Rod will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He was kind, strong and inspiring.

I worked with Rod at Department of Sport and Recreation and knew him as a strong advocate for the outdoors within the Department and always championing those involved in outdoor leadership.
I found him to be a thorough gentleman and great to work with.

He was a strong and wise mentor and friend, from whom I learned a great deal that helped me to be better in the many roles I undertook.
Rod and Bev were caring friends to Pam and me for many years, and we especially valued shared times in Torquay.

He was knowledgeable and passionate about the Mallee area and bushcraft in general.
We missed him when he was unable to join us in the last few years but we still enjoyed his company over afternoon tea back home.

I first met Rod through the BMLC in 1970’s.
I will always remember him singing as we sat around a campfire in the bush.
In the last few years I used to occasionally meet Rod as he walked in Deep Creek in Torquay.
I will miss him.
He was a great leader and a wonderful human being.

Each year he would captivate my 17 yo students with his amazing past outdoor adventures.
Rod certainly lived a full life!
A great man with strength and integrity who was responsible for literally hundreds of community leaders gaining the skills and confidence to safely take others into potentially hazards outdoor environments and bring them back enthused about the natural environment.
Rod Lingard will always be remembered fondly by the Maclaren family as a great friend and bushwalking leader.

On behalf of the Victorian Malleefowl Recovery Group I would like to extend our condolences to Michele and Warren and family on the death of Rod.
Rod monitored Malleefowl nests for 8 years, as part of the monitoring team from the Bellbrae/Torquay area.
He regularly attended VMRG Training Weekend and Reporting meetings and is remembered as a person of energy and wit.
He will be sadly missed at our gatherings.

I remember many fun times with Rod, learning to cross country ski, camping, building woodsheds at Howqua and running up the road trying to keep up with him as he strode along.
A wonderful man with such a wealth of knowledge and a love of life.
We will really miss Rod who was a lovely kind gentleman.
We met Rod & family at the 150 year celebration of the Netherby ship on King Island in 2016.

Rod was an active member of Rostrum Club No 3 when I joined in 1968 and for many years after that.
I valued his friendship and admired his leadership.
He shared his wisdom with me not only in the context of public speaking, but also while cross-country skiing.
It is sad to lose such a fine person.
Thankyou Rod, for introducing my wife and I to bushwalking through a Dept. of Youth, Sport & Recreation course in 1980, thus giving us many hours and days of pleasure in the bush.
