  1. Dear Sue and Family.
So sorry for your loss and heartfelt condolences to you and family at this time.
Kris or Rino was both a mate and a mentor inspiring my love of nature and commitment as a ranger.
Kris was a man you could trust and respect, being so knowledgeable about the natural environment.
A great Ranger, mentor and friend.

  2. Barnaby Simpson

As far as ‘uncles’ go, undeniably a legend.
I don’t think I’ve ever respected anyone more than Kris.
He could drop me with two fingers!
    My love to family.
His passing has reinforced in me exactly what family means. X

  3. Carrie and Andrew

We wish to pass on our heartfelt condolences to Sue and the extended families.
After moving to Barwon Downs, we came to know Kris as the guy that rode by on his ride on mower.
The kids nicknamed him Santa because of his look.
On a few occasions we’d stop him on his travels and chat for ages, he had an extensive knowledge of the area, animals and plant life. We learned a lot from him.
I always tried to make sure there were no branches on our front nature strip that would be a hazard to Kris and his ride on, on his travels to help out our neighbours.
Kris had big stories that he told, and recently my partner Andrew at the Barwon Downs Christmas luncheon was engulfed by his latest, but I’m sure he was packed full of more tales.
A friendly sole lost for now. But one day we look forward to hearing more stories.
    RIP Kris.
    – Carrie, Andrew, Matilda and Lochlan.

  4. Kris was an active member of the Barwon Downs CFA for over 16 years, his experience and knowledge he brought with him from his Parks days was greatly valued.
Kris will be missed in the Barwon Downs community, condolences to Sue and family, our thoughts are with you all.
    Gavin Brien
    Captain, Barwon Downs CFA

  5. Allan and Faye Rampal

Dear Sue and Family, you have lost a loving partner, father, friend and companion and we all mourn his passing. Outside of the family circle, we have all lost a “wisdom man” whose knowledge and understanding of the natural world cannot be replaced.
Vale a true Ranger whether he was on the job or just being there amongst the values of nature which he clearly was a part of!

  6. I met Kris through music and played with him in the Forrest bluegrass group. He played the tea chest bass with finesse and passion and he amazed and inspired everyone with his skill and depth of knowledge. Like the bass he was the constant, the strength behind the group, keeping us on track, encouraging us and playing only for the love of it. He came up with our name, The King Parrot Pickers and his connection to the music and the land was an inspiration. We will think of you always when we sing Red Wing.
Heartfelt condolences to Sue and family.

  7. I first met Kris & Sue about 20 years ago.
They were living at Gambier St. in Apollo Bay, and I’d done a food safety course with Sue, when out at Grey River before moving to Gambier St. myself.

Kris introduced me to the edible indigenous plants and fungi of Apollo Bay and the Otways.
When I set up the local permaculture group in Apollo Bay, Kris gave his time freely to the group to lead walks and talks.
They moved to Barwon Downs, but Kris remained a big part of my life, showing me good fishing spots and continually gifting me plants, fish, produce and seeds.
Kris was like an awesome uncle to me.
Always supportive, always listening and helping out, always with a story, a yarn, his wisdom and wit.
Always helping me move, the numerous times I had to move house with my piano in tow.
When I ran workshops out at Barwon Downs, I’d stay with Kris and Sue.
Kris was larger than life, a real life Gandalf, magical and gave the best big bear hugs.
    I can’t believe he’s gone.

Massive support and love to Sue and family.

  8. Dear Sue and Family.
Sorry for your loss and condolences to you and family at this time.
My memories of Rino as a ranger and friend was that he was a person of passion and a wealth of knowledge of the natural environment.
A Ranger that knew his park.
A person of firm views and a real character.
