A chance meeting over 35 years ago—nothing remarkable at the time, just one of those ordinary moments life quietly offers.
And yet, from that simple beginning grew a friendship that has stood the test of time, seasons, and distance.

We’ve shared so many memories, but some of the best were those Anzac Day games—standing side by side, cheering just as loudly but for opposing teams.
Friendly rivalry, laughter, and the kind of banter that only true friends can get away with. And yes… I’ll admit it—I finally came around.

What has never changed is you.
A smile for everyone, always warm, always genuine.
The kind of person who makes others feel seen, welcomed, and a little bit lighter just by being there.

From that first meeting to now, it’s been a friendship built on loyalty, laughter, and countless shared moments.
And looking back, it’s clear that what started by chance was never really chance at all—it was something truly special from the very beginning.

You were like my younger brother growing up and you called me for advice as a teenager.
We reconnected later in life and enjoyed many cousin lunches including Ron, Mary and partners.
We will never forget the many cherished memories.

It’s with much sorrow and sadness, l’m writing this tribute. You weren’t just my uncle, you were my protector, friend and role model, someone we all could trust and rely on. You stood like a pillar in our family, strong, steady and always dependable.
I will forever cherish my time spent with you.

Mario was a valued and much loved brother-in-law and a big part of our family.

Our mother adored him, and was always a little disgruntled if Janine dared visit without him!
