Doug, the years just fade away as I look at your pic and read the other tributes. When Robyn’s tribute mentioned Bronwyn I went back to our days of an all too brief friendship at the bank in Malop Street.

I only worked there for about a year in 1971 before moving to Sydney and then sadly lost touch as I travelled Australia. Those heady days at the bank were fun filled and rich with laughter. We drank at the Carlton after work and I still remember the first time you laid eyes on Bronwyn from over the road. I never told you I had a crush on you and felt deflated when Bronwyn came on the scene.

I don’t know why I suddenly remembered your name tonight and went on a search to find you have left us. Farewell young mate. I hold such windy memories of your fun filled friendship from many years ago. RIP

Life presented you with a huge challenge Doug which you faced with courage, determination and a wonderful sense of humour. I admired you so much for your attitude to life and that helped me to realise that any problems which I experienced in life were minuscule to what you endured. I was so fortunate to have you as a mate since childhood.
Rest in peace my dear friend.

  3. Doug, I have many memories of you going back over 40 years.
Of going out to dinner in pubs in Geelong. The first time I really ate oysters with you and Bronwyn.
You were given a hard road to travel in this life and you were a beacon of grace and strength throughout your journey.
I will miss you but you are kept safe in our hearts.
    – Love Robyn
