Glenise, I can only imagine how you, Riley, Paris & Sabrina are missing Grant.
I hope you and all of Grant’s friends can get together soon to celebrate his life.
He was loved by many & I am grateful to be one of them.

  2. Jon Gilchrist

To my mate, Grant “Greedy” Smith.
    You will be sadly missed.
I’m proud to have called you a mate for twenty plus years.
So many amazing musical memories and fun nights on the Guinness.
To Glenise, Riley, Paris and Sabrina. All I can say is that your Dad has left us with so much love and so many beautiful memories.
He was much loved and a wonderful musician. And a hugger! I will miss his big hugs!
His light will shine on in all of us.

When I think of Grant I will always remember his commitment to family.
He has been a wonderful uncle to Zac who I know will miss him very much, especially his stories.
I am sure his love for family will bring comfort to Glenise and the children, and his other family members.

  4. Eric Stribley

One of the best humans I’ve ever met.
A kind, caring, knowledgeable man who I had the pleasure of sharing a stage with over the years.
A talented musician and the coolest cat on stage, always.
    RIP my friend.
May the bass be always in tune and the Guinness cold and free.

  5. Met this lovely bloke while Jenny was cutting my hair in the early eighties, Grant soon took over as my hairdresser, he was slow, meticulate and would stop cutting to tell a story but wow what an interesting guy. We soon became mates through a love for Bowie, quiffs, fashion, beer and music in general. He introduced me and so many others into alot of new cool bands and movies.
We became dads at similar times and he still cut my hair, we still went see bands but conversations were based more on family. I moved overseas for work but still saw him on return trips, but covid ceased that luxury, now when I return I will see my family but there will be a huge hole where I lost my great friend. All my condolences to Glenise, Riley, Paris and Sabrina.

Grant. You were an important part of my musical life.
20 years making music with you, travelling to gigs with you, and enjoying the brotherhood that was Madhouse.
You were a true icon of my musical life and I am saddened to think of coming back to the Geelong music scene and not finding you in it.
You were a wealth of music knowledge and a fundamental part of our music family.
    Rest in peace.
But rest assured that your bass playing will live on in my ears.
    – Miss you buddy.

  7. The quiet one. Sporting not only the stylish 1950’s quiff, but the large, powerful Rickenbacker bass guitar, anchoring so many bands such as The Swells, Rank, Real Diamond and Madhouse, to name but a few. We were privileged to play tunes with you, sing harmonies with you, laugh with you. Hey, you even cut our hair! There were times you didn’t know what times it really was. Maybe the stage lights were down too low? Well, my friend, this set is now done. We’ll all think of you whenever we perform, whenever we listen to Bowie, whenever we are together. You are that Starman, waiting in the sky. Such a warm gentle human. Yes, you did blow our mind. Let’s raise that glass of Guinness one more time. Sleep well my friend. We will miss you.

  8. Thinking of all the family today – I was so sad to hear the news from Carol the other week – my father Eddy Marlow wanted to send his condolences- I have very fond memories of Grant, Russell and Carol when we all lived in Barming in the 1970’s and it was so lovely to see Carol and George when they visited in 2019 – sending you all a very big hug and love to you all – Lyn Cam ( née Marlow )

  9. Dean and Cindy Bateup and Family

Goodbye to my dear friend since the 70’s.
We will always miss you but think of you often.
Grant, we shared many nights with bands, parties with you and crazy Russell and you were always there with a cheeky smile always a friend.
Took heaps of pix and shared many, many laughs with you and very slow haircuts…
You will always be in our thoughts.
Our thoughts go out to Glenise, Riley, Paris and Sabrina and to all who had their life touched by this fantastic caring person.

  10. Harold and Rhonda Bentley

From our late teens till now, many memories of catch-ups at Bands, Weddings and Family Reunions.
You will be sadly missed mate.
Our Condolences to Glenise, Riley, Paris and Sabrina

  11. Trevor Harrison

You managed to “leave the building” without most of us being able to express how much you meant to each of us. I am sure that you had a special place for everyone. The smiles and the chuckles are what I remember the most. A wonderfully talented person who took time to enjoy and share his life with us all. You will be remembered fondly for many years to come. Big hugs to Glenise and all the family.

  12. Dear Grant, I’ll always treasure our time living together at Kilgour Street – the ‘lack of space odyssey’ as you so aptly described it – and our catch-ups for bands, music and chats in the decades that followed. I’ll hold especially close our time at Archie’s Creek and Kilcunda for the Weddoes gig in March. RIP you beautiful man.
Honoured to have been your friend.

  13. Harin Karunajeewa

Such a sweetheart of a man.

He was so proud of his family and always the most easygoing and devoted friend.

I’ll take the liberty of posting this also on behalf of his great mate, Glen Galloway who also sadly left us last year. The three of us had so much fun playing together – much more time “rehearsing” for our own enjoyment than actual gigs! But we were lucky enough to give Glen a great send-off playing at his 50th before he left us. My memories of that night are that it just made Glen and all his friends just so happy – it speaks to what Grant was all about and why he loved playing music so much – he was in the business of making other people happy!!!

  14. Stephen McIntyre

I remember how long it took to learn that Raspberries song! Grant sat down with me and I got it and I showed him Here Comes the Swells and he got that.

To Glenise, Riley, Paris and Sabrina you were blessed, and you all contributed to a great family. I have been all over the world, and lived in many houses, but watching the service, I kept thinking about how having a cup of tea in your lounge (years ago for me), that yours is the most wonderful true ‘home’ I have been in – it just felt like love.

  15. Chris Parkinson

My heartfelt condolences to Glenise, Riley, Paris and Sabrina about whom I heard so much while Grant cut my hair. My barber of 35 years and friend for just as many. Smitty never failed to say nice things on every occasion. I will never hear a Bowie or T-Rex song without thinking of him.

  16. The Geelong Street Soccer crew (The Big Issue) will miss Grant dearly. We welcome any family and friends to seek support from Street Soccer at any time.

Grant had a huge impact on his friends and participants at Street Soccer, and always offered his friendly support and humour to us all.

Sending our love and support to Grant’s loved ones, and extending our condolences to you all.

    – Alice

  17. We will miss you at the shows Grant. Seeing your gentle smiling face up the back, or down the front made the gigs that little bit better. Always there for the music, for the good times, for the people making the gigs. Always good for a chat, a beer, and most importantly, a smile. And no matter how much, it will never go close to the amount your family will miss you – every single day. Thanks for coming, so many times. Mick and Jenny and Saskia.

  18. Geoffrey Zyppel

My friend of 40 musical years.
As we all know a true and kind mate who loved a short chat.
Gigs and Guinness. A lot of humour. Sadly missed.
To Grants family my sincere condolence.

  19. No one took as long to cut my hair as Grant.
Between a shared love of Manchester United and his refusal to believe that I thought Bob Dylan was boring, my hair would eventually get cut.

  20. Lorraine Parmenter

Dear Glenise, Rylie, Paris and Sabrina, we are so sorry for your loss.
Thinking of you all at this time.
Love Lorraine, Dion, Jenna and Gracie Parmenter

  21. Dear Glenise, Riley, Paris and Sabrina.
Thinking of you at this sad time.
It’s nice to think back and celebrate Grant’s life.
Lots of love Jane and family
