To dear Robyn, the world lost a star of bright luminance.
We will all miss him and our hearts are with you.

    Lenny, my brother.
Len was my childhood playmate,Β we roamed far and wide in England around our home – the bluebell woods in all seasons,Β  scrogging, the out of bounds canal and the dreaded gas works! The railways, tunnels and trains were our favourite though, the spectacle of all. We once saw the queen get off the train, but no-one believed us – even though they found out that she was visiting there, at that time our story was not believed. But we knew was so.
In Australia, we played out and about together, camping,Β  tadpole fishing, endless games involving sticks, stones and tv plots. The Canning river and its bridge, on the back way to Boan’s – discovered by going with Mum on her long walk to buy groceries, was our world to discover and we did for years. Thankyou Len, for everything.
Still later, teaching me to drive ( Len changed my name to ‘leadfoot’ or simply ‘oh no!) With patience, kindness and humour. We shared house while the babies were small and later holidays at the block and in Albany. You were a rare soul Len, always even tempered and good humoured, ready to quietly do what needed to be done and to help out. I will always miss you and be glad for all the time and love we had together.
    Vicky – Your Sister

Len you were a unique person, one who will be sadly missed.
We will always remember your kindness to others, your sense of humour, patience, willingness to work hard and just being you and accepting others “warts and all”.
These traits made you a wonderful person, it is sad to say goodbye.
    Love Mary and Geoff xx

  4. We are so saddened to hear the news that Len has passed away – he was always a joy to be with and we are so grateful to have known him.

We send our love and thoughts to Robyn – we have fond memories of such enjoyable times spent with you both when you were living in Daylesford.

    Our condolences.

  6. Len was in the true sense a gentleman.
He was kind to children, firm in his convictions, gentle with friends and gave so much love and joy to those around him.
I will always remember his love for the world of nature, his active engagement in discourse, his laugh and smile.
Thanks for saving me from the world’s largest mosquito on the Cradle Mountain trail despite me vomiting all over the back of your head on the winding drive up, lugging the backpack when we kids got tired and drying our socks after sleet and snow. Thanks for taking in Buttercup the heifer we doted on after the Shuster farm sold.
Thanks for encouraging me into emergency services with your strong example in fire and rescue volunteering.
Thank you for so much more.
I will miss our discussions on horses, travelling and cars.
I will miss you and Robyn being my mainland parents and dropping in from far away to deliver hugs, kisses and encouragement.
I will miss your unerring loyalty to Robyn as your life partner.
    Forever in loving memory,
    Kate

  7. I echo Vicky’s words, as the three of us were so close in age and played everywhere together, out in the wilds of rural England. Len, like us, was up for any kind of adventure and this spirit carried through into his adult life, taking him overseas many times and all around this country. He was a gentle, kind and funny man and it is so sad that he died far too young. Robyn, you looked after Len so well and so lovingly. I’m sorry that the border closures prevent us from being there but we are with you in spirit. Much love, Judy.

  8. Ashlea Salter

Len, it was a privilege to be able to hear about your life, get to know you and Robyn and support you over the last couple of years. I’ll cherish the chats in the lounge room with you and Robyn. Rest In Peace wonderful man. Ash

This photo is taken on Christmas day 1978 – my brother Len was fun at Christmas!
This is Len and my brother-in-law Zac at play with their Christmas stockings.
They took a whole new meaning to the stocking!

  10. Jessica Brosnan

Before I got my licence, Len would take me up to visit our sister’s family in Prorogorups.
This is a photo taken of Len, Mark my brother-in-law and I in summer 1985.
It was an important trip because I had just graduated from high school and was awaiting my TAE results.
Len had thoughtfully guided me around WAIT (now Curtin) and I decided to choose the same course he was studying – teaching.
I should have been working rather than travelling with Len – I was offered a job but chose to take the trip instead – I’m glad I did!

  11. Jessica Brosnan

This is a very grainy photo taken by a 10 year old – excited to get a kodak brownie for Christmas.
Len is with Carolyn Muggeridge – a good family friend.
They are showing off their Christmas presents too.

  12. Colin Mockett

Len, you achieved so much in a life that was so cruelly shortened. We were visitors and fellow-travellers for much of it and frequently in awe of your expertise, abilities and versatility. You’ll leave a big hole, Mate – and remain long in the memories of many people all around our continent. Certainly in ours. Vale – and love always to Robyn

  13. Jill and Mal Loone

Len we remember with great joy and happiness a fabulous time with you and dear Robyn in Perth when you became Mr and Mrs. You were such a caring, natural man who will be missed by many. Walks on the beach in Tas is another memory. Robyn was a devoted wife to a beautiful man taken too soon. But called for duty in a higher place. Rest In Peace Len.
Robyn know that you gave Len a wonderful life very much enriched by your love and devotion to your soul mate.
Love you. Mal and Jill πŸ’•πŸ’•.

  14. Elizabeth Capaldi

Dear Robyn, sending you love and hugs today and every day and remembering your beautiful Len as a kind, generous, jolly, intelligent, interesting and interested man, full of love for his world but especially for you. Together you made such a great, strong team and we will cherish the memories of the times I/we had in WA, Hobart, and Lithgow.
All our love Liz and John.

  15. A man you won’t meet every day.
Len was one of life’s true gentlemen.
Sensitive, caring, genuine, thoughtful in every way.
I will hold my memories close to my heart.
    Fly free beautiful spirit x

  16. Marnie Parkinson

Although I only shared in the last 8 months of your life Len, it was so special to be able to care for you with Robyn.
There were many hours spent in the lounge room sharing the stories of your life and keeping your spark alive!
I just wish I had been afforded the chance to know you before you became unwell.
The world has lost a patient, tolerant, gorgeous man.

  17. Kerrie and colin

Robyn we are thinking of you in your time of sadness.
We send you our love and hugs.
Del and Jasmine pass on their love as well.

  18. Patrick & Gary

Dear Robyn and Family of Len,
Our thoughts are with you and your sadness is shared. Stay strong and treasure your memories.
    With much love.

  19. Paul and Leticia

    Dear Robyn,
We wish to extend the deepest sympathy to you and your family for the loss of your dear husband and friend.
We know that Len was very lucky to have you in his life. We have such fond memories of you from our Derby days as a kind, loving and vivacious personality who always lit up a room. Unquestionably, you were the LIGHT of Len’s life! Indeed you were both so lucky to have each other.
We also know that he was a beautiful person and a most loving companion for you.
Our hearts are with you Robyn.
    – With love, Paul and Leticia

Reading these tributes, it’s clear that Len’s life was well-lived and his presence enriched all of ours.
I knew him for a short time, but it was long enough to see how special he was.
Len touched so many people, I’m grateful Daniel and Lucas were able to know him.
    Sending Robyn love and strength.
    – With sympathy, the Tassie Macphersons.

    Alas, too late.
    May he rest in peace.
